I don't think many of you are shocked about Tiger missing the cut. I'm not. I'm also certain more of you are surprised that DJ, J-Day, and Rickie also missed the cut. I'm certain Taylor Made was licking their chops hoping for a dominate performance out of the super group. Not really the commercial they were looking for.
All in all it wasn't a horrific two days for Tiger....unless you look at it from a driving perspective...then it was pretty bad. Tiger was just 4 for 14 on Thursday on the South Course which actually makes his 76 look not all that bad. He improved drastically (probably from my stern tweets telling him to do so) to 10 for 14 on the North Course and improved his score by 4 shots. All this while "making nothing" according to him. But when you are hacking it out of the rough and having to get up and down for par, you aren't going to be filling up the birdie bucket.
His swing looks....awkward. It is obvious he doesn't have the mobility that he once did (nor do I), but there is something else off. Let's hope he figures it out (or calls me for help) before April.
Some quick thoughts from the Pro Shop.....
- Missing the cut gives him a couple days rest before his trip across the pond to play in Dubai (the litter box I mentioned earlier).
- J-Day and DJ should have tore up a soft Torrey Pines.....they obviously were more nervous about playing with Tiger then Tiger was about putting a ball in the Pacific.
- Mr. Gold Medal, Justin Rose is leading.....I think that hardware around his neck has given him some confidence as of late and I'm marking him down as an early pick for the British.
- Akron native, Ryan Armour made the cut and is currently 6 back. I don't see him backing up much as long as he can keep the ball in the short stuff like he normally does.
- I miss San Diego.
