"The Match" is a running, year-long match.  It begins on the first of January and ends on the 31st of December.  Any 18 hole round in which both opponents play on the same course, on the same day (regardless if they are paired together) will be considered an official round of "The Match".  The player who is up at the end of the year shall be declared the champion. 

I highly encourage you to challenge one of your friends to a similar tradition.
