Golf isn't THAT boring to watch is it? I don't think so and here is why.
Their are people (or so I think there are) who watch competitive chess, cricket, ping pong, bowling, and host of other sports that I think most would agree make from great napping television.
However, I believe it would be safe to say that the people who do watch those particular sports more than likely engage in the very same activity (or maybe used to) on a more then seldom basis. I recently tried to watch a 3 minute video of a "speed" chess match on social media and only made it through about 47 seconds. Could you, would you sit through 10 frames of bowling? Or a 5-day cricket match? Yeah! 5 days for ONE MATCH!? They play 8 hours a day in those things! And people think golf is a slow sport?
Jordan Spieth and caddy Michael Geller gave us a little excitement at the Travelers after a hole out from a bunker during a playoff. Their simultaneous club and rake toss, followed by awkward chest/body bump brought much praise from the viewing world. Folks are saying we need more of that...well I guess players should just hole out to win a tournament more often. Can someone let the tour know that? Thanks.
Golf is just as exciting to us golfers as baseball is to baseball fans, football to football fans, and so on. Not every game ends with a walk-off home run or a Hail Mary touchdown pass. Some end with a basic pop fly or strike out. Most football games I watch tend to end with one team taking a knee to run off the clock. Talk about boring. And yes, sometimes golf ends with a sloppy three putt for bogey. That doesn't make it less exciting or entertaining.
