I had the distinct honor of escorting the winner of the event around the course and marking his scorecard. Jon Mills, who is Kent State's Associate Head Golf Coach, played on the PGA Tour from 2006-2008 still has plenty of game left in the tank.
He had me by 1 at the turn and well...that's where it turned. For both of us. Jon played a bogey free back 9 with three birdies finishing with a score of 69. I on the other hand, stumbled home to shoot 79. At the end of the day he got me by 10.
It's not too often you get to play with someone with Tour experience, but when you do you try to take notes. Here are mine.
My lag putting is weak. My short game is weaker.
We all talk about how good the guys and girls on TV hit it, but we fail to talk about just how sharp their shot game is...ALL THE TIME. That's what separated Jon and I on the back 9. When we both missed a green, he would get up and down and I wouldn't (even made double one time).
So it's off to the putting green and short game area for this pro. Hope to see you there!
