I have a confession.
From time to time (more often then I'd like to admit) I visit www.masters.com just to listen to the music and drool over the pictures. As golf fans, we love to watch the Majors as well as regular tour events. This week the pros are at Bay Hill to honor the King and I'm certain many of us will tune in. Heck, I watched the ceremonial tee shots that the pros hit on Wednesday. Next week, they will be somewhere else and we will probably watch that too.
But if given the chance to fast forward to Augusta we wouldn't just push the button, we would stomp on it.
Why? It's the first major! It's a tradition unlike...you know the rest. As golf fans we are lucky. We get four World Series Series's (grammar/spell check that one for me please). We get four Super Bowls. Tennis fans know what we are talking about with their Grand Slam events. I feel bad for other sports that only have one big game or event a year.
So I'm excited. You're excited. We're excited. But are we excited about the right thing? Is the Masters YOUR first major of the year? If you are reading this, probably not....if it is...best of luck and keep the ball below the hole on 18. So what is your first major? Is it your clubs Opening Day? Is it an annual spring golf trip? Is it an actual tournament? Maybe the US Open Local Qualifier?
Regardless I'm sure that you are as excited for it as you are for the Green Jacket Ceremony, but are you planning for it? Are you training for it? Or will you be that person who hits the range the week before? Or the one who tries to get in 9 holes the night before?
As the snow falls here in North East Ohio, I can tell you I'm excited for MY first major of the year as well as all the one I'll watch on TV. And I'm training, practicing, and planning for both of those. A guy can dream right?
